Gifts and Donations
The Library welcomes gifts and encourages donations. Your gifts and donations are
tax deductible.
Material Donations
The library accepts gifts of books and other materials with the understanding that
they will be added to the collection only if appropriate and needed. If they are
not needed because of duplication, condition, or dated information the material
will be dealt with at our discretion. The same criteria of selection, which are applied to purchase materials, are applied
to gifts.
Monetary Donations
Gifts of money to purchase Library materials are also welcome. Financial donations
can be made to the Martin County Public Library. Every dollar you can give helps
make it possible to provide materials, services and programs for the public.
Donor Recognition
Memorial gifts of books or money are also accepted with suitable bookplates placed
in the book.
Acknowledgment
By law, the library is not allowed to appraise the value of donated materials, though
it can provide an acknowledgment of receipt of the items if requested by the donor.
Tax Information and Appraisals
Each donor is responsible for determining their personal tax obligations and whether
their gift requires appraisal. For more information consult IRS publication 561 entitled Determining the Value
of Donated Property.
