About our library

   The Martin County Public Library and The Rufus Reed Public Library branch are committed to providing easily accessible, user friendly and a safe environment for all our patrons. Our goal is to maintain current technology and to provide materials and services for our residents for personal enrichment, enjoyment, and educational needs.

   The libraries have a special learning mission for our youth. We offer preschool programs, elementary programs, outreach programs to our elementary schools, and summer reading for ages 2-18. The libraries have a designated children’s area for their enjoyment. We have a Family Fun Night program the first Tuesday of each month at the main library and the first Thursday at the branch library. Families are encouraged to attend and many family activities are planned. We have an adult book club each month .Different genres of books are selected. Internet classes are offered on a weekly basis for our Senior Citizen patrons. The general public has access to computer work stations with free internet service and wireless internet is available also. It is used for research and many other purposes including accessing worldwide websites. The Genealogy Room is housed in the main library and it offers microfilm of local newspapers. Many census statistics, marriage records, Kentucky history and facts as well as Kentucky author books are located in this room. We offer materials of surrounding counties as well as Martin County. The main library has a meeting room for non-profit organizations to use. It has a seating capacity of 100. The branch has a meeting room and is available upon request with a capacity of 50. A laptop, color printer, and projector are available for the communities use upon request within the libraries. A comfortable lounge is centrally located in both libraries and houses current magazines and newspapers for the public’s enjoyment.

   We offer current books, adult and children’s DVD’s, adult and juvenile audio books, and CD’s for checkout. The main library has a notary public, patron faxing, interlibrary loan, black and white copying and color copying services. The branch offers faxing, black and white copying and interlibrary loans. Closures

The Martin County Public Library System will be closed August, 18 2008 for training.

When Weather Conditions are such that driving is hazardous or roads are closed the library will operate on a 3 hour delay. If conditions do not improve the library will remain closed for the day.
